Here you will find links to educational topics that have been covered at our monthly meetings. The power points or PDF’s you see here will not be “complete” as more information and direction is covered at our meetings – but these will give you an overview of what our meetings are about and the kinds of things we learn together (and may even encourage you to come out and hear a whole lot more – the first one is free!) at our monthly meetings.

FAMACHA
What does FAMACHA stand for?
The acronym stands for FAffa MAlan CHArt, and it is a method of testing to determine barber pole worm parasite loads in goats and sheep so that we will know when to treat them.
General Information about the method
This also says in part that “The quality of the FAMACHA guide card is also important. It should be an original card, not a photo copy or print out. It should be replaced yearly and kept out of the sun when not in use.”

Producers can qualify online to get a FAMACHA card, and the training is free to producers in Canada and the USA. Arrange for the free online training here.
The card itself still costs money – under $20 at the moment – but the training is free, so if members qualify and have a certificate to show, possibly they will be able to get a card for less from either their vet, the provincial agricultural organizations or (maybe) the CFIA.
